Every semester after the vacation is the period which is fun. But soon the results come out and there is joy or downcast. Failure is not the end to everything. But failing when you know that you don't deserve is something that pricks the most. Accepting that the paper which you attempted was really bad and then failing in it is something which is fair enough.
In Mumbai University (MU) Engineering colleges, from semester 3 to 6 all checking is done internally. But my college Don Bosco Institute Of Technology (DBIT) really lags with experience teachers in the staff. This is one of the major headache for the students. In the aforementioned semesters students score very high since most of the colleges just do check papers in such a way that students do score well. Here I am not pointing out to any specific colleges neither am I saying that the colleges under Mumbai University are loose in their corrections. But certain factor like methods of solving problems, the answering approach towards a concept, knowledge expressed beyond the standard textbooks, does matter while there is internal checking. But because there are less experienced staff the papers are send outside the college for correction, here there is a problem. Hence as compared to the other college students we students at DBIT always secure less marks. The problem doesn't come when you compare marks with the student siting next to you on your bench. But it does come when all colleges students come on the same platform with higher marks. The platform may be further studies or campus placements.
On top of it if you get a KT in any subject, then a student has to pay 100 bucks per paper for reverifcation/re-evaluation. After one week you come to know if there is any alteration in your marks or no. Later after 1-2 weeks you get a photocopy of your answer sheet. Now once when I had got an unexpected ATKT in one of the semester I was told many a times that there is no procedure after you get a photocopy of your answer sheet. It did sound weird that then there is no use of getting the photocopy, if we can't claim marks. But then the poor management of DBIT did not direct me properly with the correct procedure. I had to give the exam again.
When there were few days left for my KT exam. I discovered from a reliable source that there is a procedure to follow for claiming marks. We have to tell college where do you claim the marks with the help of the subject teacher. Then college writes a letter to the university and later a 2-3 teachers are asked to recheck your paper. They decide if you get marks or no. I am writing this post specially for my juniors who should not do a mistake like I did and did not go ahead with the procedure. If you want to improve your percentage then go ahead and give a re-exam if not then please ask college the correct way and fight for your marks to proceed.
